Funded Educational Technology Grants

Cognitive disabilities have been on the rise and therefore the need for assistive technology and its incorporation into the special education of students increases. As parents become more aware of the success stories of students who utilize technology, they have more desire to have their child undergo assistive technology training. Assistive technology has also advanced to a stage where there are certain instruments and software which has made the job of assistive technology and special education much easier. If the student has significant needs then even fundamental tasks can be taught to children with the help of special devices.

Assistive Technology in Special Education

Progress made by children with disabilities is also monitored and reported to their parents regularly. Disabilities that qualify children for services may impact their language or other areas of basic functioning. There are several software applications which have been specifically designed to cater to people with disabilities. A flash card or a screen forms part of the system which is used by children to learn. Some of the monitor screens are operated by movements of the eye, followed by learning whatever is displayed on the screen. Such devices prove to be very helpful especially for children who have conditions such as Amyotrophic Lateral Sclerosis, Multiple Sclerosis or Cerebral Palsy.
